Hiatus

I've developed a problem with my right heel. Looks like plantar fasciitis which results from overstretching the sole of the foot among other factors.

As a result, we're taking a few days off to evaluate it and figure out when we can continue walking. We'll keep you posted.

  2. We used to call this " dogs heel" ( ironic for cat lovers). One of the things that helped was to take a cold bottle of beer and roll it uinder your foot ( as I recall this was boring and only helped when you drank the beer, then replaced it with cold water). Anyway, all I remember was it was painful but with care and the right boots one could continue - I remember climbing Scafell ( the highest mountain in England) with a case of it - but I am sure not as painful as yours. My best advice - see a Doctor ( or chiropodist) and take their advice - not mine.

  3. We'll definately try the beer cure. I'll do it with Rick just so he won't feel lonely.

He's calling a doctor today for an appointment. We're keeping our fingers crossed.

  4. Now's your chance Jenny. Time to get a few extra kilometres (that's modern speak and the proper spelling) on the big sook.

  5. Dear Rick - We've been thinking about you and hope the PF condition is improving. I can't tell you how many people I know who've had this, mostly runners who get it while training for an event and adding miles to their regular regimen. Aging sucks. At least we still have our minds (except for name recollection, in the case of yours truly).

And speaking of age, happy birthday! May 12 is minutes away from decending on the East Coast. We'll raise a glass in your honor tomorrow night.

    Take care of the foot.

    Love, C&M

  6. @C&M

    Thanks for the birthday wishes.

The foot is improving though the likelihood of getting back on the trail is difficult to estimate.

  7. Get the inflammation down - learn your physical therapy exercises - you'll be doing them for the rest of the trip. This is not a bad thing - your feet will be very strong and flexible and much less prone to injury from now on.

You'll be fine, ya big lug.

    your pal, John L.

  8. So sorry to hear about the problem with your heel! Sounds painful.... UGH. Hope a bottle of beer (or a few!) can be of help!

    Love you,
